Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year. People spend hundreds of dollars buying gifts for family and friends. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the smile and surprise on the faces of the ones you love when they tear open a Christmas gift. Shopping can exhaust your body and your wallet. The good news is it doesn’t have to. Check out this list of 10 gifts that won’t break the bank

  1. Homemade Baked Good Mixes: Choose your favorite recipes for cookies, squares and bars and print the recipes on cute index cards. Mix the dry ingredients together in glass jars and label them with fun names like ‘Santa’s Secret Brownies’. Now your friends have delicious, ready to make treats and the recipes for later. You can also include cheap items from the dollar stores like measuring spoons and cookie cutters.
  2.  Pampering gift set:  Gift sets that include luxury items such as moisturizing lotions, facial cleansers and body scrubs. These are brilliant gifts that your friends and family may not buy for themselves but will love using. These days there are many products that cater to men’s hair and skin needs.
  3. Themed Baskets: Find baskets or other containers and fill them with themed goods. Suggested themes are Coffee: Include a gourmet coffees, coffee mugs, biscuits, coasters. Gardening: Gardening gloves, seeds, plant stakes, garden ornaments. Movies: Popcorn, popcorn seasonings, movie rental coupons. You can think up many different themes to suit your friends and family.
  4. Picture Frames:  You can buy a collage picture frame and fill it with pictures of you and your friends and family. For a personal touch place mementos in the frames as well. Example: Ticket stubs, dried flowers or leaves even receipts from shopping trips.
  5. A Journal or Notebook:  Place a personal inscription inside or a photo held in with old fashioned photo corner squares. You can also place a quote you feel describes the person or will inspire them.
  6. Customized Mugs or T-shirts: Though it may be cheesy, you’re loved one with find it funny and it’s certainly personal. You can choose picture of the two of you or a slogan you think describes the person. Even just one word that you think fits that person well such as Nerd, Jock, Popular, Little Sister and don’t be afraid to be funny and try Stinky, Angry, Sleepy. They will love it even if it never leaves the house!
  7. Socks and Underwear: Everyone uses them and you can find some cute, classy and comfortable varieties. It’s guaranteed they’ll use them.
  8. Christmas Ornaments: You can find an ornament to suit your friends and family, something that reminds you of them. It’s thoughtful and they’ll remember you each year when they see it.
  9. Second Hand Items: Be careful what you buy, you don’t want to look cheap or tacky. If the item you are looking at doesn’t bring the word antique to mind don’t bother bargaining. Items like old steamer and treasure trunks make wonderful gifts and you can bargain for them in antique or second hand stores. Hard cover classic books also make the list of second hand items that won’t make you look tacky. Jewelry, whether it’s costume or not you can find some interesting and beautiful pieces and you can bargain over the price.
  10. Use your skills: Give the gift of you. If you can play guitar, cook, draw, sew or hit a golf ball you can offer your skills. Take a day and spend it with your family member or friend. Have a coffee or lunch and then take some time to teach them how to bake a pie, play some new chords or hit a golf ball a few yards. It will be fun and appreciated!

Christmas doesn’t have to leave you broke. Your friends and family can have a fantastic gift that doesn’t make your wallet a bed and breakfast for moths.
