hello,

This week is National Retirement Week, which is a good thing since it is a topic weighing heavily on our minds. According to a recent survey by MoneyRates and GetRichSlowly, 52% of respondents didn’t feel on track with their retirement. It’s no wonder so many people are concerned about their retirement savings, since the Sun Financial Unretirement Index found that nearly two-thirds of Americans will delay retirement one year—with 27% of those individuals delaying retirement by 5 years!

Great points pearljam! I’ve read some of those same statistics. Nobody knows what the state of Social Security will be when they retire - it’s best to have a plan in place to assure that you don’t end up in that position. I don’t want to have to work until I’m 80 because I can’t afford to retire!

hello sir,

“The percentage of workers who said they have less than $10,000 in savings grew to 43% in 2010, from 39% in 2009, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute’s annual Retirement Confidence Survey.

Forty-two percent of men cited “outliving savings” as one of their top two concerns as they approach retirement, compared to 37 percent of women. Ten percent of women reported “extreme stress” in regards to managing their retirement savings compared to 4 percent of men who reported the same.
